Abstract

Elimination ostomies are last-resort surgical interventions to create a fecal or urinary diversion. These surgeries are conducted worldwide. Undergoing an ostomy is a situation that is difficult for the patient to adapt to, often affecting their social, emotional, and physical life. Therefore, they must have a solid support network, including a multidisciplinary team composed of various health professionals, including the pharmacist. By integrating into multidisciplinary teams, the pharmacist, as a medication specialist, can have a significant and positive impact on the patient’s recovery. As a health professional in close contact with the community, the pharmacist can and should intervene to advise, clarify, and demystify the doubts of patients and the community, promoting health.
